The flying car made its first intercity flight in the Czech Republic. The flight took 35 minutes from the international airport in Nitra to the international airport in Bratislava on Jun. 28, 2021. Flying cars are low-cost aircraft that have the capacity also drive on highways.
The idea of this kind of vehicle is not very new. The first idea of the winged cars that everybody can own and park in their garage was introduced after WWII. At that time technology was not at the level that this kind of vehicle is possible.
The reason for that is that the engines and batteries were too heavy. And the turbine engines used too much fuel. Turbines are also noisy. And the noise is one thing that is slowing the creation of this type of vehicle. The electric power which uses batteries or fuel cells makes it possible to create lightweight, low-noise flying machines.
By using modern battery technology is possible to make aerial vehicles that are using electric engines. Some start-ups are working with low-cost electric-powered aerial vehicles which can use for feeder traffic for the airports. But those electric vehicles can also use for rescue missions where people must take from the roofs of the building.
They can also take hostage-rescue and other law enforcement teams to roofs. But in frontier rescue and military use, flying cars can drive straight out from the cargo planes. And that gives mobility to the operators. By using this kind of technology is possible to land the ambulance on the ground. Then the medical equipment will connect.
And the flying car will fly the patient to the cargo bay of the VTOL aircraft. In the military world, the ability to land the vehicles without parachutes and fly them away makes noticing those operators more difficult than if they are using regular parachutes. The "flying jeep" must not flight 35 minutes for making the mission where it must jump over the ground and fly in the cargo door of the hovering V-22 "Osprey" type VTOL transporter.
